Marbling
MARBLING (SKETCHBOOK)
The materials that we use for Marbling session is tray,gloss paint and stick or straw. This is my first time I heard about marbling method and it is kind of fun though. However the gloss paint is oil based so, my hands was little bit covered by the gloss paint which I have to use turpentine to remove it and the turpentine was really made me dizzy that day.

Black Square
BLACK SQUARE
For first start of this assignment, we had to cut a square of 1 inch x 1 inch (had to cut into 42 pieces).
Then we need to divide into 2 groups (each group contain 21 black square). The first group the black square must have 1 cut and 1 horizontal fold and the second group must have 1 cut and 1 diagonal fold.

7 words had been given from our lecture that we had to visualize it and 1 words for us to choose which word we want to express/visulize. Sadly the variety of cut and fold I did not took a picture from my sketchbook.
The 1 word that I choose is 'Trap'
The 7 words that our lecture gave to us is:
1) Congested
2) Tight
3) Chaos
4) Tension
5) Free Flow
6) Direction

Combination of 2 design through tracing
After done with the visualization of 8 words we must choose 2 words that we already visualize and combine each other to create a new design. For this work I choose congested and tight.

The left side I traced the tight visual by freely follow the line of different shape of tight. The right side I traced the congested visual which the same method I did for the left side. (Third layer)
For the last layer and it will appear the front row, I use a bright colour to make it look there is light or happiness even though the surrounding is look like depress or stress or hardship.

Material Exploration
Material Exploration
After done with our assignment 2 which is the black square works. We been ask to do make an exploration of using different materials other than mounting board or watercolour paper to show the black square. My first thought after listening about the briefing of the assignment, I had the thought of doing something that related with the shadows. My first materials that wanted to used was wood and perspect but then the cost for this materials is really expensive. So I decided to used another materials that we always in our everyday routine which is two transparent file and a bunch of straws and some threads.
The straws as the stand and the transparent file was filled with my combination of two words for my black squares (Congested and Tight). The file was been tight between the straws by using some threads to make the files stable and do not make it move.
I use my phone flashlight as my light source.

The SHADOWS
When I see the shadows, I feel is look like my imagination that always constantly happened in my mind and I also do feel clam and happy when I look at it.

Paint to Music
Paint To Music.
Two music that we have to do which is Contemporary music and classical music.
Material Used
Set up the A1 watercolour paper

Music - Mr Heartache by Sekai No Owari
When I listen to the music for many times I will feel happy and gave me a strength to do work because especially the 'Pop' background music that make you want to tap your feet or make your body move. Therefore, that is why my poster has variety of colour for the background that represent as the enjoyment moment and in the middle there is some mixture of the colour that I used for the background as a splash movement which is represent as the 'pop' background that make your body move. The way I make the splash movement appear is by putting the mixture of the colours at a tracing paper and then paste at the poster and the background I use a 3 inch wide brush to paint from left side to right side .
Music - Trio Sonata No.4 in C Major: 1. Adagio by the Johann Gottlieb Goldberg
The first time I heard this song at Spotify, I had the feeling of calmness and I feel that I'm in a different dimensional. Moreover, after constantly listen to it I feel like my body was floating or like I was dancing a waltz styles with my future boyfriend. Hence I decided use my hand as my tool for this poster because it is show the movement of turquoise that I feel about this music.

FINAL PROJECT
FINAL PROJECT.
For this last assignment, we had to make our own monogram by using our first letter of our names, like my name is Nur Ilana so I have to use 'N' and 'I' to create my monogram. Then, after done choosing which design I have to choose 5 items that need to put my monogram on it. My items that I will be using is a hat,a t-shirt,a mug, a stamp/sculpture and a canvas backpack.

Monogram I choosen
In process of doing my assignment:
1) Hats - I decided to stitch it to make the shape of my monogram. It took me a lot of time because of the try and errors that had happen.
At first I use a very thin string which it did not turn out really nice so I have to cut it and remove the thread to make another one. So I decided to use a wool thread to make it look bigger and stand out.
This is the outcome. It kind look nice for me and very different from others people who always wear this type of hat because my hats has my own design/monogram.
2) Canvas Backpack - Since I already experience using gloss paint on a cartridge paper so I wanted to try on a canvas backpack.

I covered the part that I don't want to be disturb (by using a wiring tape)
By doing a marbling method.

The outcome.
I paint my monogram by using a gloss paint and the outline I used a liquid paper.
3) Mug - I used the mug that I have in the kitchen and I try using the gloss paint to transfer my monogram even though the description say it is for wood and metal.
It seem that the gloss paint can be used on ceramic too. The texture was not flat but it give the different atmosphere when you see the monogram.
4) Stamp/ Sculpture - At first I want to use a rubber block or a big eraser to make as a stamp but then I could not find it anywhere, So I change material which a modeling clay that might be a stamp and also it can become as a sculpture.
The material I used.
After I leave it dry for 1 day, it turn quite well and it is really had been hardened.
I try to stamp on a excess mounting board that I had, it turn out quite okay but when I try on my poster it did not appear. (The experiment on the excess mounting board is in my sketchbook)
5) T-shirt - I use my own t-shirt (because I want to save money) and felt fabric. The felt fabric is to make the shape of my monogram.
The placed the felt fabric at the back of the t-shirt because I put in front and on center it will look so normal. I stitch the felt fabric.
The poster - I make the repetition of my monogram on the Grey mounting board A3 size. However I make the shape by using the soldering tools.

It seems that I injured myself again. I accidentally touch the hot part and it is really painful.
Finally done!
I spray the shaving cream at the size of A3 size, then I put some food colouring on top of it.
I placed my poster on the shaving cream mix with food colouring (same method doing the marbling)
The final result. However the smell of mixture of the shaving cream and food colouring was not really nice.
